LIVELIHOOD THROUGH SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

As a social enterprise, SSUWAK provides livelihood programs for the less fortunate people of Orani and neighboring towns. The talented but underprivileged townsfolk collectively create decor pieces such as lanterns and lampshades using Capiz shells as main material. The community not only learns how to create masterpieces, they also acquire the values of hard work, perseverance, resilience, and running an enterprise. SSUWAK Livelihood is a true empowerment to help alleviate poverty in Bataan.

“Social entrepreneurs are not content just to give a fish or teach how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry.”

Bill Drayton, Leading Social Entrepreneurs Changing the World

CAPIZ LANTERNS

Capiz (windowpane oysters) are native to Orani and is used as main material in creating the products of SSUWAK Livelihood program. With the advent of using artificial materials, the art of using capiz is a tradition that is slowly fading but sees a resurgence in Orani. Through capiz, SSUWAK livelihood has illuminated the lives of the community to see hope in rising above life’s hardships and poverty.

Capiz lanterns are popular Christmas decors amongst Filipinos symbolizing light and hope during the joyful season.
